"Plan B"

A favorite subject of mine is the Tower of the Americas.
You can see it from almost anywhere in Bexar county, and
to many San Antonians it defines the downtown skyline.
For this one, I was heading to the Spaghetti Warehouse parking lot
to catch some trains in 'golden' evening light, but a thunderstorm
rolled in to the west that blocked the sun, so I had to fall back
on "Plan B" and shoot whatever I could find that had potential,
using the ominous clouds as a nice addition to the clear blue skies
I usually feature.

Windmills

A traditional Texas image is the windmill, turning
slowly on a hot and lazy afternoon.
Squealing because the bearings need grease, but
still pumping water for the stock tanks on
a cattle ranch.
These days they are a popular decoration for suburban
businesses, and miniatures can even be seen in people's
front lawns.
This one is a restored antique but does nothing more
than add a rustic flavor to the parking lot of a bank.

Views Of Texas has just passed 1000 hits since I started
keeping track a few months ago. Not much compared to
commercial sites but I'm proud nonetheless.
I want to thank my visitors from all over the world,
and I hope y'all enjoy peeking into my collection of
photos that I have lovingly taken in my favorite parts
of the Republic Of Texas.

Texas Highways

While cruising down the interstates in Texas you
can often look to the side and see cactus along
the right-of-way.
For this image I decided to reverse the view.

This is a completed section of the huge IH10/Loop 410
interchange that's under construction on the northwest side.

Urban Decor

The hardy bougainvillea loves direct sunlight
and needs little water, so they're a perfect
choice to beautify our downtown sidewalks.

The Emily Morgan Hotel

I have been trying to catch this grand old
beauty in evening light for many months.
Not only is the color richer, but the details
on the side of the building seem to be glowing
the way they are projecting just past the shadows.

Water Challenge

This is part of the man-made stream that ends up
flowing through the River-Level lobby at the Hyatt
and into the San Antonio River.
Using a flash makes the shutter speed very quick,
freezing the flow for a cool glassy look.

Horsing Around

The more I look for them, the more
carousel horses I find.
They're everywhere.
Watch yourselves!
This one is on the roof of an amusement-supply
place on Broadway.

Lightning Yet Again

This is the fourth lightning post I have made so far.
Someday I'll get it right, but if I'm not getting
better at least I'm not getting worse.

The Parrot Guy

Near Alamo Plaza we ran across the parrot guy tonight.
He'll come right up and start entertaining you
with his birds, and you can have as much contact
with them as you please.
Before you can even try to fish out a dollar
he's moved on to the next person, so I think he does
this because he just loves his birds and loves making
people happy.
We'll look for him again because we decided that
he's very cool.
Here a little girl has just finished a wide-eyed visit.

This is 'Nacho Chip', an African Grey Parrot.

Sharp Teeth

This orthodontist's building on Fredericksburg Road
has a wicked angle to the corner office.
Truly unique, I shot it at night for a cooler look.

South Park

There's a cool website where you can create your
own South Park characters.
