I took this photo a while ago but didn't know what the deal was with
this building that's near the Municipal Auditorium.
Still don't know any history, but the observatory on
top is cool.
Tonight I walked past the street entrance and discovered
that it's now a lawyer's office.
And that there actually IS a telescope in the mini-observatory, but it's
the crappy kind you can buy at WalMart for 79 bucks.
Further proof that lawyers are often very stupid.

End Of An Era

The Tower of the Americas is now closed for the next year.
It will get a complete restoration, top to bottom.
Landry's Restaurants of Houston got the new contract to operate
the Tower. It had been run by the same people since it opened
in 1968, but I guess the new folks from out of town made
the city an offer it couldn't refuse.

St.Joske's

Back in 1888 when the Joske Brothers Clothing and Dry Goods
Merchants decided to expand their Alamo Plaza store, they ran
into a problem. St. Joseph's Catholic Church was in the way, and
refused to move, sell or relocate.
So they built around it, and created this unique architecture
with the amusing nickname.

We must be serious about the NBA Finals to desecrate the Alamo like this.
