Feel The Heat

Today is the start of a new era here at Views Of Texas.

The image quality from my new camera is pretty freaking sweet.
Double the pixels from my old one, which will take some getting used to on the Photoshop and storage side of things.
Having a second lens that features some serious magnification will surely have an affect on my style.

I haven't taken any 'real' pictures yet (just been "kicking the tires") but I think I'm ready to go out and give it a test drive.

Life Gets Complicated

But complicated can be good.

I'll take better photos of this thing when I'm able to relax and take my time. Have you ever seen dust in one of my studio shots before now?
Waiting four hours for the battery to take it's first charge seemed like forever.

After 30 minutes of play I'm already feeling comfortable with it's controls. Sony has always had a reputation for easy-to-use menu systems, but this is the best I've ever used.

At the marina in Corpus Christi.

Possibly the last IR photo on Views Of Texas for a long time.

Sunset On The Bay (And My F717)

This was the view directly behind our hotel.
I was racing back after soundcheck, hoping I wouldn't miss the best sunset I have seen all year.

My camera is still crapped-out, and there's been zero progress on getting it fixed. Nobody is replying to my messages.

Just one or two more photos after this.

The Port Of Corpus Christi

The entrance to the port passes under this big steel highway bridge.

Six months ago the cops that saw me would have prevented my shooting the port due to Homeland Security bullcrap but now we are seeing a return to sanity thanks to Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) who is fighting the good fight on behalf of hassled photographers in the USA.
It all started in DC's Union Station, and now the rules are being enforced in our favor again, they way they've always been written.
Photography is Legal in public places like airports, train stations and ports.
Hopefully all the overzealous cops and rentacops will get the word soon and stop being nazis.
Too bad we'll never get apologies for all the harassment and overtly agressive enforcement of non-existant laws.

More info here.

Return To The Lexington

The last time we visited the USS Lexington (on display in Corpus Christi Bay) I waited a little too long after sunset so the blue lights aimed at the ship overpowered the sky and surrounding area.

I timed it just right this year.

Looking back towards shore.

A freighter leaves port and sneaks past the Lex.

Leftovers

I have nothing new--this has been a difficult summer for photography with the 100 degree temps and gas prices.
These leftovers are three years old, more or less. I shot them for contests, and I know the last one was a winner.

I will definitely have something new for you on Sunday morning.
