Milepost 225, VofTx Post 100

Southwest of San Antonio near the Nelson Rd landfill
is this straight section of track.
When I get tired of shooting train photos in urban
surroundings this is one of the places I go.


This is my 100th post here at
Views Of Texas.
Having a place like this where the need to update
keeps me and my camera busy has been a tremendous help in
learning to take many different kinds of photos.

photography forum's September Photo Challenge.
The topic was Technology.

This is a home-studio shot, using 3/8" tall microasians
instead of PhotoShop tricks.

Bugging Out

If you watched M*A*S*H you know what a "Bug Out" is.
Those Texans who are being advised to evacuate
are doing so in record numbers thanks to the lessons
learned with Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi.
In San Antonio we have lit the OPEN sign again,
so feel free to crash on our couches.
Y'all be careful!

All Aboard!

These railroaders weren't very friendly, probably
because I busted them coming out of a bar, and they
left their train unlocked and running.
In their defense, they probably have a broken toilet,
because when I photographed them earlier they were
running with the nose door open.
(Another broken rule)
So let's not assume they were drinking on the job.

Cold Storage

This building is just across the tracks from the
Spaghetti Warehouse, which I can recommend highly.
I have yet to get a perfect train photo at this
location but keep on trying whenever I go downtown.
This one suffers from the wide-angle lens syndrome,
where vertical elements seem to lean-in a bit.
Also, the focus is a little soft.
Still, it hints at what I might capture there someday.
Since I have been too busy to shoot anything new this
week, it will have to do.

Mexican Folk Art

I found this flaming, tattooed skull in a
folk art shop at the Blue Star.
Can't stop staring at it, so I thought maybe
someone else would like to see it, too.
Someone buy this for me, before Halloween, OK?

September 11

I didn't know why I was so intent on taking pictures
of this simple little scene yesterday, but after looking
at the results for a few hours, I finally 'got it'.

September 11 has come around again, and there's another
massive cleanup and healing process happening in America.

The red, white and blue may be faded in this photo, but
they still cheer me up.

Pioneer Flour

As you can tell by the design of this building,
Pioneer Flour has been in business for as long as
anyone can remember.
Good biscuit and gravy mixes.

Miss Jada

According to her mom and those of us who also know her,
this little sweetheart will be a star some day.
Jada is only three-ish, yet wise beyond her years.
How many other children her age are willing and able to
pack for a trip better than grandma can?
In this photo she's trying to decide if gasoline
price-limits will work better than they did in the 1970s.
Stay tuned for her answer.
It's sure to be correct.

God's Painting

His color choices are amazing.

Despite all of the death and destruction, rest assured
that He's still out there, and still loves us.
